Aga Mosque

Native Name: Aga Camii

Aga Mosque is the only mosque in Istiklal Avenue , located within a courtyard on the right section where Saklzagac avenue intersects with Istiklal Avenue . The Mosque has two entrances , the main one is on Mahyac street and the other one from Istiklal Avenue . Galatasaray Agasi Hiseyyin built this mosque in 1594 . A fire ruined the building in 1830 and it was later repaired by Emperor Mahmut the Second in 1834 .

The mosque has a small structure with a rectangular plan which did not have a dome . The Interior decoration of the mosque could not be preserved . The mosque is decorated , not from long ago , with Turkish faience . The fountain which was designed by Sinan the architect and located in the courtyard is perhaps the most important place in the mosque . This fountain was brought from Sinan Pasha Mosque that was build by Minar Sinan in Kasllnpaa but does not exist today . At the entrance , a women mahfil exists . To be able to enter the mosque , you should take off your shoes .
