Arap Mosque

Native Name: Arap Camii

Arap Mosque is located in Nafe Street which is between Karakoy and
Azapkapl . Some think that it was built by the Arabs during the blockade , however the predominant thought is that it was a Genoese mosque transformed into a mosque in the period of Fatih in the name of Galata Mosque . The emplacement of exile Andalusia Arabs who came from Spain in 1492 caused the mosque's name to be changed into Arab Mosque .

A number of Genoese grave stones were found during the repairing works made in 1913 and put into Archaeology Museum . The Mosque has a square plan with once an open roof that was closed with timber during the repairing works . The building has a tower which is the minaret of the mosque . Outside of the altar (mihrab) , there are timber gallery floors surrounding the whole place .
