Architecture of Today's Fatih Mosque

The new mosque consists of two large complete domes and a semi-dome on the mihrab side . There are two minarets , each minaret with a balcony and has lead-covered pinnacles . Several decorative elements of the previous structure can be found in the new building including the tile plates ornamenting the headpiece of the two windows in the inner court , main entrance portal , the three walls of its inner courtyard as well as the bodies of the minarets until the line of lower serefe .

Inside Fatih mosque , the central dome measures 26 meter in diameter with four semi-domes on each axis and supported by four large marble columns . The mosque has two minarets each with twin galleries . The calligraphy decoration exhibits a Baroque influence and can be found inside the mosque and the mimbar however , the white tiles are of somehow inferior quality when compared with the İznik tiled splendor of the Rüstem Pasha Mosque . At the direction of the mihrab of the mosque , there is Fatih Sultan Mehmet Tomb which was damaged in the earthquake of 1766 and was renewed after . It has baroque features and is designed in an octagon plan that is covered with a single dome . In the tomb lies the sarcophagus of Patih . There is also a smaller tomb to the east of Fatih tomb where Glilbahar Hatun , Patih's wife and his
daughter Gevheri were buried .
