Native Name: Dolmabahce Camii
Dolmabahce Mosque is located on the Bosphorus . It is part of the palace complex and can be found in the southern part of Dolmabahce Palace . Construction of the mosque began by Bezmia lem Valide Sultan (1807-53) , the regent and mother of Sultan Abdülmecid . When she died , Sultan Abdülmecid took over the throne and continued the building which was completed in 1855 by the architect Karabet Balyan .
The main are of the mosque is square planned roofed by a single dome . The double floored Sultan's (maksoorah) is located adjacent to the entrance facade and appears as if it was a separate building from the mosque . This area of the building protrudes out to the avenue from its two corners where the two minarets of the mosque rise . In this (maksoorah) the sultan and statesmen can perform their prayers . Also public processions can be held in it . The mosque has a circular window design which resembles the look of peacock-tail and is considered a unique mosque architecture , not widely implemented in other mosques , that gives the mosque a different look .
The decoration of the interior part has a mixture of baroque and ampere styles . There is a precious chandelier that can be noticed hanging from the dome . Red porphyry is used
in the made of Mihrab and Mimbar .
