The fourth courtyard , which is also known as the Imperial Sofa , is a private sanctuary of the Sultan and his family , and consists of a number of pavilions , kiosks , gardens and terraces . At the right of the Fourth Courtyard , there is Sofa Mosque . Across Sofa Mosque , there is a restaurant that was originally a Pavilion called Mecidiye Kosku (Grand Pavilion) which was built in 19th century in baroque style . At the west of the courtyard , there is a garden known as Tulip Garden that is ascended by stairs . In this garden you can see Hekimbasi Odasi (tower of the Head Physician) as well as Sofa Kiosk both located on the north side of the garden .
After tulip garden at its west , there are viewing mansions located on the terrace which is ascended by stairs . From here , you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of Istanbul . Baghdad Kiosk , which was built by Murat IV (1623-1640) to commemorate his Baghdad Campaign of 1638 , is another wonderful structure located at the corner of the terrace that is overlooking the Golden Horn . The structure , which has an octagon plan , is covered with a dome carried on four columns . The dome is decorated from the
inside with gild needlework . The calling of the structure has outside fringes on the four sides , while the walls inside are covered with tiles . Window wings , cupboards and other wooden work inside the structure are ornamented with nacre and tortoise shell . Yerevan Kiosk (Revan Kosku) which was also built by Murat IV , is located at the south of the terrace . It is a relatively small pavilion which has a central dome . There are three apses for sofas while the fourth wall contains a door and a fireplace . The wall which is facing the colonnade is set with marble , while the other walls is covered with blue-and-white tiles . On the front of Yerevan Kiosk , there is a marble pool with fountain . The walls of the Circumcision Room can be seen right across Yerevan Kiosk . The Circumcision Room (Sünnet Odası) , which was built in 1640 by Sultan Ibrahim I , was dedicated to the circumcision of young princes , as circumcision is a primary rite in Islam . The interior as well as the exterior of this room are decorated with a mixed collection of rare tiles , like the blue tiles with flower motifs that can be seen on the exterior side . Iftar Pavilion (mehtaplik) is located between Baghdad Kiosk and Circumcision room .
The pavilion allows a view of the Golden Horn that is why tourists get there today for photo opportunities . The sultan used to break his fast after sunset at this pavilion during the fasting month of ramadan . The pavilion which bulges like a balcony over the garden below it , has a marbled terrace that gained its current appearance during the reign of Sultan Ibrahim (1640-1648) .
