Aga Mosque



Native Name: Aga Camii Aga Mosque is the only mosque in Istiklal Avenue, located within a courtyard on the right section where Saklzagac avenue intersects with Istiklal Avenue. The Mosque has two entrances, the main one is on Mahyac street and the other one from Istiklal Avenue. Galatasaray Agasi Hiseyyin built this mosque in 1594. A fire ruined the building in 1830 and it was later repaired by Emperor Mahmut the Second in 1834. The mosque has a small structure with a rectangular plan which did not have a dome. The Interior decoration of the mosque could not be preserved. The mosque is decorated, not from long ago, with Turkish faience.
