The Bosphorus Bridge is one of two hanging bridges in Istanbul which is spanning the Bosphorus strait connecting the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. Construction of the bridge started in 1970 and was completed in 1973. It extends from Ortaköy (on the European side) to Beylerbeyi (on the Asian side). The bridge is 1,500m in length with a deck width of 39m. The distance between its two towers (main span) is 1,074m and its highest part is 65m from the Bosphorus. The apron stretching between the two towers of the bridge is hanged on two main cables with hanging cables. The Bosphorus Bridge had been the 4th longest hanging bridge in the world when it was completed in 1973 and now it is the 15th in the world.
