Constantine Bonded Column

There is little known about the history of Constantine Bonded Column as the original constructor and the date of its construction are unknown. The column is located on the south of Hippodrome and measures 32 meters high. Constantine Porphyrogenetus VII (913¬959) ordered some repair works and hence the column was named after his name. The column was built by stones of different sizes and has a massive look. It has a marble base where there can be found some Greek writings on the east side. It once had a golden facing that covered its surface but this was looted by the Latins who invaded Istanbul during crusades.
