The Obelisk of Theodosius is the Egyptian obelisk of pharaoh Tutmoses III. It was re-erected by the roman emperor Theodosius in the Hippodrome of Constantinople (which is known today as Sultanahmet Meydanı, in the city of Istanbul). The obelisk was originally erected by Tutmoses III and was set to the south of the seventh pylon of the great temple of Karnak. In 357, the Roman emperor Constantius II had this obelisk and another one transported to Alexandria to commemorate his 20th year on the throne. The other obelisk was erected in the same year on the spina of the Circus Maximus in Rome (where it is known there today as the Lateran obelisk).
