Native name: Galatasaray Lisesi
Galatasaray High school dates back to the 15th century. It is said that in this area when it was a forest, Sultan Beyazit II, while in a hunting expedition, came upon an old man who had fought in the siege of Istanbul in 1453. The man presented the sultan with a red and a yellow rose from his garden (these exact colors are the colors of the Galatasaray soccer team). The old man requested that a place of learning be built on that place. The school was actually built in 1481 by the name of Galata Sarayi. It was named after Galata Sarayi palace because it was the fourth of a network of palace schools.
Many grand viziers and palace administrators, prime ministers, artist and journalist have been graduated from the school throughout the past 500 years.
