Kanuni Sultan Suleyman (also known as Suleyman the Magnificent) was the son of Yavus Sultan Selim. He ascended the throne on September 1520. During his long reign of 47 years, he succeeded in making the ottoman empire the most powerful one in the whole world. He conquered Belgrade in 1521, Rhodes in 1522 and Hungary in 1526. In his reign, because of the various victories and lands he acquired in the Middle East and Africa, the Mediterranean has become wholly a Turkish lake. His armies succeeded to take the Szigetvar castle after a long siege, but he died on his way before reaching the conquered castle.
