Mimar Sinan is the greatest Ottoman architect of the Ottoman Empire who was born in 1490. When Sinan was 22, he was recruited into the Corps of Ottoman Standing Troops (Janissary). He has a military tour throughout the empire which has greatly inspired his imagination and design abilities. He toured Baghdad, Damascus, Persia and Egypt as well as other parts of the large Ottoman empire. In 1538, he built a bridge over Prut River for which he received a lot of favor and attention.
Under Sultan Suleyman, Sinan was appointed to the position of State Architect.
