Turkish Name: Panagia Muhliotissa Kilisesi
Panagia Muhliotissa Church is located right beside Fener Greek High School across the west door. It is the only church that has remained from the Byzantine period and still functions today. The church was built in the 13th century as Maria, the daughter of Emperor Michael Palaiologos VIII (1261-1282), designated her own land for the church to be build on. Panagia Muhliotissa Church was damaged by the fires three times in 1633, 1640 and 1729, however this has led to its extension in its west and south sides during repair works.
