Saint Eufemia Church

      Turkish Name: Azize Eufemia Kilisesi Saint Eufemia Church is located between Firuz Aga Mosque and the Court House. An area in the west of the Antiochus Palace was in ruins in the 7th century. This area was turned into a church in the name of saint Eufemia who was the saint of Khalkedon (kadlkoy) who was martyred on 16th of September 303 A.D, when Christianity was not yet widely spread. In this church, architectural remains and frescos regarding the life of Saint Eufemia were found during the excavation works of 1939 and 1942. The relics of Saint Eufemia were first kept at this church, but now they are kept at Hagios Georgios Church which is Fener Patriarchate Church today. ...Read More
