Yıldız Palace (meaning Star Palace) is located in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. It is a large complex of former imperial Ottoman pavilions, qasrs and kiosks that were built by different Sultans in the area that has been used mostly as hunting area beginning from the reign of Kanuni (1520¬66). The first structure was built by Ahmet I and then the area around the building remained a forest till the beginning of the 19th century. Various sultans after Ahmed I enjoyed staying for hunting on these area and Sultans Abdülmecid I and Abdülaziz built mansions for themselves there.
