Kilic Ali Pasha Mosque

Kilic Ali Pasha Mosque is located on the European coast of Bosphorus in the Tophane Square , between Ali Pasha Medresesi Street which connects with Kemerallt Avenue and Killy Ali Pasha Avenue . The mosque is part of a complex building that was constructed by Architect Sinan between 1580-81 for the famous seaman Killy Ali Pasha . The complex itself consists of a mosque , a religious school , a tomb , a public fountain and a hamam (Turkish bath) . The architect of the complex , Sinan , is considered the most famous of all Ottoman architects .

There is a large courtyard surrounding the mosque . In the garden , there is a fountain with eight marble columns and a covering dome . On the right hand side of the building rises a minaret with the balcony . In the garden , facing east , the tomb of Kilic Ali Pasa is located .

The mosque has a rectangular plan with a single dome 12 . 70 m which is supported by two half domes on the axis of kiblah . The atrium is partly covered with a lead coated roof including the last gathering area which has window tops decorated with triangular tiles . The dome with twenty-four windows is carried on archways which sits on four buttresses on the four corners . The buttresses that support the building have archways which are distinctive from the exterior . Tiled boards decorate the lower window tops of the mosque which are together with the triangular stained windows on top of the two boards are giving wonderful appearance to the place .
