Pera Palace is a historical hotel located in the Tepebaşı neighborhood of Beyoğlu district , overlooking the Golden Horn . After the railway system extension , at the end of the 19th century , there was a need for more comfortable hotels in the city of Istanbul . Pera Palace was built for this purpose . It was opened for service in 1895 and is considered the oldest European hotel of Turkey .

The Palace was designed in a rococo style by the French-Turkish architect Alexander Vallaury . Construction works began in May 1881 and completed in 1891 . The floors are made of marble with attractive decoration . The building lobby and halls are cluttered with 19th century furniture while the medium sized rooms and the bathrooms have a very traditional style as their furniture has not been changed for many years .

The hotel has 6 floors with 145 guest rooms including 6 suites . There are 273 beds equipped with all the modern comforts . Pera Palace include Facilities for meeting , seminar and ball rooms of 400 persons capacity in addition to Pera Restaurant , Orient Express Bar , Pera Patisserie . On the ground floor , there is the main restaurant where a tasteful selection of local and Turkish food is served .
