Native name: Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Camii
Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque , also known as the Aksaray Valide Mosque , is located at the intersection of Ordu Caddesi and Atatürk Bulvarı in the Aksaray neighbourhood . It was built by Pertevniyal Valide Sultan , the mother of Abdulaziz and the wife of Mahmut II . Construction works began in 1869 and completed in 1871 . The architect who designed the mosque is probably Sarkis Balyan , however some scholars claim that it was designed by the Italian architect Montani .
In the courtyard of the mosque , there is the tomb of Valide Sultan . Hunkar Kiosk with two minarets on its two sides is located on the north of the structure . After the entrance , comes the main area of the mosque which is square planned measuring 10m x 10m and covered with a single dome . The whole area is ornamented from the dome to the ground with pen crafts which have evident blue tone .
The sharp arched windows finished with head piece are emphasized on the outside of the mosque . The three fronts on the outside , which are looking over to the street , have selective engravings that give the place a monumental look .
