Sahaflar Bazaar
Sahaflar Bazaar is a second-hand book bazaar . Its entrance is located across the Fesçiler Door of Grand Bazaar . It is in the old courtyard between Beyazid Mosque and Grand Bazaar . On its current place , there was the Chartoprateia or the book and paper market of the old Byzantine city . In the 18th century , booksellers left their original place at Grand Bazaar and settled here . The market was expanded after that thanks to printing and publishing legislation introduced at that time . The Bazaar was once the main place for book sale and book distribution as well as a meeting place for intellectual people within the Ottoman Empire however , the importance of the Bazaar began to decline in the last 50 or 60 years because of the opening of modern bookstores as well as the spread of electronic and digital media . Today , shops in the bazaar sell old and new books as well as examples of Ottoman miniature pages . A statue of Ibrahim Miiteferrika who first introduced printing to Turkey can also be seen there . The Sahaflar Bazaar is open daily except on Sundays and public and religious holidays . |
