Tekfur Palace

Native name: Tekfur Sarayi

Tekfur Palace is located between Egrikapi and Edlrnekapl . Tekfur palace was originally a part of Blakhernai Palace complex that was used at the last period of Byzantine . It is the only remaining building of the complex located at its south that reached today . The palace belongs to 13th century . Of Tekfur Palace , only the body walls remain on the East-West direction today . The palace had a rectangular plan with its front side overlooking a courtyard at the direction of the Golden Horn . The small courtyard is located before the colorful facade decorated with red bricks and marble .

The palace is a three-story building with a missing roof . The first floor is the entrance floor that is higher in height than the other two floors and opens to the courtyard with four large vaults . There are six windows on the second floor overlooking the courtyard . The third floor has windows on all four façades that must have been providing a spectacular view over the city and the Golden Horn to the north as well as the countryside and forests to the west . There was probably a chapel on the upper floor as an apse in the form of a bay can be found there .

The decorative arches above the windows are ornamented with mixture of red brick and white stone . The front of the courtyard is built with stone and bricks and the south front facade is bonded with cut stone . At the south front of the building , there are only windows at the highest floor and a bulging-out balcony .
