Sultan Ahmet Mosque is the national mosque of Turkey. The mosque is known as the Blue Mosque because of the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior. It was built during the reign of Ahmed I. Construction works took about 7 years from 1609 to 1616. The complex building comprises a tomb of the founder, a madrasah and a hospice and is considered one of the most famous monuments of Islamic art and is visited by all who come to Istanbul to see its fascination.
