Atik Mustafa Pasha Mosque is located further down Balat hospital, on Comber Street that is connected with the shore. An old byzantine church was in this place but was turned into a mosque in 1490. The mosque is also named as Cabir Mosque because it is thought that Hazret-i Cubir was buried there. It is not known exactly when the church has been constructed or for whom it was dedicated, however some claim that it used to be dedicated to Petrus and Marcus, and later on that it was a church where Thekla, the daughter of Emperor Theophilos (829-842) retreated. None of these claims however has been proved.
