Native Name: Kapalı çarşı (Covered Bazaar)
Grand Bazaar is located covering large area between Nuruosmaniye and Beyazit Mosque . The Grand Bazaar which is known also as (Covered Bazaar) is Turkey's largest covered-market and one of the largest world covered-markets as well . It is also one of the oldest markets as it was originally built of wood after the conquest of
Istanbul
around the area of Old Bedesten (Old Bazaar) today . It got larger and bigger as the time went on , and as new sections and shops opened .
Today the bazaar extends to about 58 streets , the whole area of the Bazaar is approximately 31 , 000 square meters and it has about 4000 shops . There are about 250 , 000 to 400 , 000 visitors daily to the Grand Bazaar . It might be confusing somehow for its first-time visitor , however the visitor will get used to it easily after a couple of visits specially because streets are arranged on a grid plan , also shops selling the same type of goods are grouped together in the Bazaar . There are jewelry , copper and brassware , pottery , spice , handcrafts objects , alabaster bookends and ashtrays , carpets and all sorts of other things in that great Bazaar . There are also many
restaurants in there that allow you to take rest after shopping and to have lunch .
Note: As the Bazaar is usually crowded , you are advised to be aware of pickpockets there .
The Grand Bazaar is open daily between 09:00 - 19 . 00 except on Sundays and on religious holidays as the Bazaar is closed entirely in these days .
